The green at the 3rd hole at Coorg Golf Links. This 360 yard, Par 4 is the toughest hole as the elevated green is difficult to attack and anything short runs back to the fairway. Going long on this green is trouble

The first nine holes at the CGL are tighter with water, bunkers, OB's and 4 holes that run up into the hills. Tame those holes and the back nine will seem a tad easier

About this course

The Coorg Golf Links golf course is the premier golf course in this part of the world !

Started in 1992 it was the vision of a golfer and gentleman and was developed into a full fledged 18 hole course amidst the beautiful valleys of the Western Ghats amidst the coffee plantation area of Coorg. The present back 9 holes were ready to play in 1998 & the subsequent front 9 holes were ready to play in 2000. Since then there has been a regular progress in upgrading the greens & fairways and infrastructure around the course. The course today is a 6082 yard, Par 70 layout with 2 sets of tees and has plenty of variety & challenges in store for a leisurely round of golf.

The front 9 holes are replete with challenges and hazards with OB areas, changes in elevation, and some water in play. The front 9 is set along the ghats & has its fair share of water bodies before the holes start their climb up the ghats & you feel your legs ache & your lungs heave as you go up almost 200 feet in a matter of two holes.

The first hole is a reasonably easy hole and does have plenty of water, bunkers and OB along the right in play. The 2nd is a short Par 3 which will lull you into a sense of complacency. After that its time to put on your thinking caps as the course suddenly winds its way from reasonably flat terrain to the hills. The 3rd to 6th hole run into and alongside the mountains and are treacherous holes that can spoil your score card especially the first time around ! You have a short uphill Par 4 with a touch & go 2nd shot into a compact elevated green, followed by a short Par 3 that runs along the mountain & then a short Par 4 with a blind tee shot to a fairway that runs down to the green like a roller coaster, followed by a tricky Par 5 that is a dog leg hole with the first 250 yards all running uphill and the next 250 yards running downhill to a green that is a good 100 feet below! The next 3 holes are back on reasonably flat terra firma!

The back nine holes are on a flat piece of land with plenty of water, trees & dogleg’s to navigate around. They call for accurate tee shots and second shots as most of the greens have bunkers protecting them in the front. Not exactly the easiest of layouts the first time around- but once you get a hang of the layout, you should be able to get the occasional birdie, especially on the PAR 3 holes. The finishing hole is again a picturesque one as you come back to the clubhouse and attack a pin set on a elevated green with 4 bunkers waiting for the erroneous shot. A par on the last will put you in a good frame of mind- but often that is not the case! The back nine is set amongst relatively flatter terrain & has longer holes in comparison.

Located 6 kms from Virajpet town the Golf course and club offer a wonderful setting with a fully equipped Club house, 6 cottages to stay at & practice facilities. The golf course is located next to the luxurious Ambatty Greens Resort (This is a 24 room luxury hotel) which makes this a perfect getaway not just for the weekend golfer but for a corporate retreat or a family outing.
